Allium obtusum is a species of wild onion known by the common name red Sierra onion. It is native to the granite hills and mountains of Nevada and eastern California where it is a common member of the local flora. The red Sierra onion grows from a bulb one or two centimeters wide and bears a stem which may be tall or short. Atop the stem is an flower cluster of up to 60 flowers which May 4 to 12 millimeters wide. The flowers are white to pink with dark midveins.
