A small to medium tree for xeriscaping and attracting pollinators, the Desert Museum palo verde (Parkinsonia 'Desert Museum') is a gem for desert or low-water gardens. A sterile hybrid of three palo verde species, the tree is thornless with a smooth trunk and branches that are a striking green. Small, fern-like lime green leaves are adorned with bright yellow flowers in late spring or summer.

Semi-deciduous and fast-growing, this palo verde can reach full height in 3 to 5 years. Prune to keep it tidy. Many other kinds of plants grow easily beneath its airy canopy.

Desert Museum palo verde prefers a hot and dry inland climate to a coastal one, where powdery mildew can take hold. It tolerates wind, poor soil, and temperatures below freezing. Once established, avoid watering in the dry season.
