Horticultural selection from Festuca rubra. This grass is beautiful with soft, blue-green leaves. It is fine-textured and the 'Molate Blue' selection is rather more tolerant of drought and sun than the other Red Fescue selections. It is a cool season grass and requires regular moisture for best appearance. It can be mowed and could be used as a cool season lawn alternative, also, because of its deep root system it is excellent for slope stabilization. 'Molate blue' was selected by David Amme from Point Molate in Contra Costa County.
