Carole Ann beach strawberry (Fragaria chiloensis 'Carole Ann') is an evergreen in the Rosacae or rose family.  Carole Ann is a cultivar of native beach strawberry, originally found in the dunes at Bodega Bay.  It blooms vigorously in spring, its large white flowers contrasting with shiny green leaves. These produce red-seeded white berries, not edible by humans.

This plant is a vigorous groundcover. It spreads by runners that form a dense mat, good for filling in between rocks, on garden borders or as a slope stabilizer and also wonderful trailing from a container or hanging basket. Carole Ann beach strawberry prefers sandy soil and is very drought tolerant once established.

Local bees and butterflies pollinate the flowers. Insects, birds and mammals eat the fruit.
