Choris popcorn flower (Plagiobothrys chorisianus var. chorisianus) is a low-growing, white-flowered annual herb in the borage family (Boraginaceae), endemic to California. This variety is known for its relatively large white flowers, which bloom from March through June. It is typically found in moist, grassy places within coastal prairie, coastal scrub, and chaparral habitats below 525 feet in elevation. Its distribution appears to be limited to the San Francisco Bay Area and parts of the nearby central California coast.
Choris popcorn flower can be distinguished from other popcornflowers by its broader flowers and more coastal range. It was once locally abundant and may still be grown from seed, making it a potential candidate for restoration projects in appropriate coastal habitats.
While Choris popcorn flower is sometimes referred to as artist's popcornflower, the common name “Choris popcorn flower” is more specific to this variety. The two names are sometimes used interchangeably, though sources differ on which variety they refer to.
