Common Woollysunflower (Eriophyllum lanatum var. achilleoides) is one of many recognized varieties of Woollysunflower, native to California and Oregon. This plant is a perennial with silvery leaves and yellow flowers that look much like true sunflowers. One flower head is borne on each flowering stalk, exhibiting great variability. It is in the Asteracae or daisy family and grows in dry, often rocky sites, chaparral, and forest.
Common wooly sunflower is tolerant of a variety of soils including sand, clay and alkaline. It requires watering no more than once a month in summer.
It is deer resistant and supports many insects, hosting a likely total of 7 species of butterfly and moths.
