Tolerates almost any soil type. Prefers sun in coastal sites, and part shade in inland sites. Selected for the garden. Introduced by Bart O'Brien.

Tolerates a wide variety of soils.

It is difficult to specify companion plants due to the diverse parts of the state different habitats where it occurs. Grow with Manzanita (Arctostaphylos spp.), Ceanothus species, Artemisia species, and Sages (Salvia spp.), as well as many other plants.
