Dichelostemma capitatum ssp. capitatum
Blue dicks (Dipterostemonstemma capitatus ssp. capitatus) grows from an underground corm, and its upright flower stems may reach almost 2 feet. The flowers are a blue, blue-purple, pink-purple, or white, appearing in spring. The plant has two or three leaves at its base. It will die back in summer and reproduce from seed and cormlets that separate from the main corm.
This plant takes full to part sun and prefers well-draining soil. It is drought-adapted. In the wild it is a grassland plant and looks good massed.
It attracts insects and butterflies.
