Mirabilis laevis var. villosa is one of five recognized varieties of Mirabilis laevis. It is the desert form which tends to grow in rocky places, at elevations from 0-7500 feet, from Mono County southward. It has white flowers rather than the purple flowers of the coastal and mountain Varieties:
